Day 10 (20 Dec): A Saviour for Everyone

15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

(Hebrews 4:15 - 16)

We have a sympathetic Savior. His sympathy towards mankind spans throughout history and permeates through all ages - no one is outside the reach of His sympathy.

From Jesus' advent as an infant to the point of His death, everyone can identify with Him in some way.

As a baby - born homeless and poor, to a virgin. Scandalous in that culture. Born not in home, let alone a hospital, but in a stable meant for animals. What a way to begin life!

As a toddler - He was hunted. On the run as a fugitive, He lived as a refugee in another hostile country. (The UN High Commission for Refugees reckoned there were 42 million refugees by the end of 2024. As of April 2025, estimates of forcibly displaced people stood at 122.1 million). You can almost see His image in the news today.

As adolescent - He was wise beyond his age. Mature beyond most men twice His age. He was probably the village pride!

As a young man - didn't stand out (Is 53:2). He was unnoticeable. Probably worked as a nondescript carpenter. As He was Creator of all, I hazard a guess that His wooden creations would be perfect pieces.

As the Messiah - no place to lay His head, Mt 8:20, though the world was made by him and belonged to him.

Died like a criminal - at the prime age of 33. Not for any crime he committed. But for sins mankind had committed. He was completely innocent (Lk 23:4) for He was "without sin".

Our Savior's life was an irony. He had run through every possible gauntlet so that mankind will not have to suffer alone. Jesus was tempted "in every aspect ...as we are". He understands us where we are. He is a Savior for everyone who believes in him, and He will save to the uttermost!
